Food and Nutrition

We believe a good diet is essential for happy, well developed, healthy children therefore we offer well planned meals that use fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. Our menus are varied and all the food is freshly prepared daily in our own kitchen. The weekly menu is displayed so that parents and carers are able to see what thier child will be eating during the week in advance.

We can cater for most dietary needs. For older children and babies able to eat finger food we provide a nutritious breakfast (up to 9.00 a.m.), fruit and milk or water as a snack mid-morning, a two course cooked lunch and an afternoon tea.

Children are given the opportunity to access water throughout the day. Older children are encouraged to manage their snack time themselves to develop confidence, independence and choice.

Younger babies will be given whatever milk and weaning food you have provided at times that suit their individual needs. Drinking water is available for all children at all times.

Meal times are a social event, enjoyed with other children and staff. The nursery staff are encouraged to eat with the children and to help them develop healthy eating and social skills. Each day, parents are given information about the food their child has had during the day.

We do not allow packed lunches, except in exceptional circumstances by arrangement with the nursery manager. This is designed with safety in mind as many children have food allergies and the presence of food which we have not prepared increases risk.

In our most recent Food Hygiene Inspection we were awarded a Level 5 rating.  Food hygiene Inspections are carried out on an annual basis by an Environmental Health Inspector working with Fenland District Council.
